About the Initiative for Value-Based Health Benefits™
The Initiative for Value Based Health Benefits, as part of the nonprofit IHPM, is dedicated to establishing the full value of employee health and maximizing its impact on business performance. It helps employers determine the total cost of employee illness for the business, identify the best opportunities to reduce illness and improve performance, and measure the success of these efforts. The Initiative was formed in 2005 as an outgrowth of the Institute for Value-Based Health Management’s collaboration with the Institute for Health and Productivity Management, and operates as part of IHPM.
IHPM’s Initiative for Value-Based Health Benefits (IVB)™
-
On-going network/movement that will stay connected on health benefit value issues (not an “association”)
-
Platform to share examples of successes and problems
-
Connection with “health leaders” and progressive companies showing the way to greater value
-
Catalyst for change with “measured results” to make the case to executive management
- Ensuring maintenance of the “employer-based” health benefit system
Basing Health Benefit Design on Value Instead of Cost
- Five fundamental elements of a value-based benefit plan design
Enabling engagement in health improvement behaviors – e.g., exercise, diet;
- Doing preventive health screenings;
- Easing access to appropriate best quality care (including prescribed drugs of choice);
- Integrating disability with medical benefits in a person-centric rather than "siloed" approach
- Providing services (e.g., EAPs) and work arrangements to support employees' total well-being in a corporate culture of health.
