Dr. Ron Kessler joins the faculty for AHPM II on October 6th in Phoenix

Dr. Ron Kessler from the Harvard Medical School, who is building a very large HPM survey database from his field work with multiple large employers, and who is delivering the opening keynote address to the conference on Tuesday morning, Oct. 7th, also will join the faculty for the Academy on Oct. 6th.  (Some of his published findings have been featured in earlier magazines as Academy Briefs.)

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas to present at HPM 101

Arthritis is a Workforce Issue
Economic Impact of Arthritis: The Ripple Effect Treatment of Arthritis

Arthritis in the Workplace is the focal point in the first "Special Issue" of Health & Productivity Management and will be available to members the week after Labor Day.  It opens with the graphic observation that this leading cause of disability in the workforce is an important target for employer efforts at better disease management to keep these vital workers active and productive.

IHPM's own survey - featured in an earlier regular issue (Vol. 1, No. 3) identified musculoskeletal conditions, mostly low back pain and osteoarthritis, as the leading health-related reason for lost productivity.

Co-edited by Sean Sullivan, JD, President & CEO of IHPM and Wendy Lynch, PhD, President, Lynch Consulting, Ltd., the special issue features articles from an extensive interview with Dr. Joseph Golbus, a leading clinical expert on arthritis and head of the division of Rheumatology at Evanston Northwestern Health Care, as well as Associate Professor at Northwestern University Medical School and a powerful new research piece by Lamont Muchmore, MBA, from Options and Choices (OCI), a leading national data analysis firm.

We want to thank Pfizer for making possible this comprehensive and up-to-date look at the prevalence, diagnosis and appropriate treatment of this significant disease for the working population.  Look for future Special Issues focusing on other diseases that have major impacts on total health-related costs -- including lost productivity.
