with Dr. James Prochaska

IHPM's Eighth Annual International Conference

October 15-17 -- Scottsdale, AZ

The New Demographic Imperative: Keeping Healthy Employees

Featured Speaker:James Prochaska, PhD, Professor of Clinical and Health Psychology, University of Rhode Island; Founder, Pro-Change™ Behavior Systems, Inc.

IHPM is pleased to announce a unique opportunity at its 8th Annual International Conference – to meet with and learn from the co-creator of the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change, Dr. James Prochaska, who has transformed the way science thinks about change.   Over the course of three days, Dr. Prochaska will present the latest thinking on this vital subject, provide concrete evidence of the positive impact of this model in the workplace, and lead a workshop that will give employers practical tools to enhance the health and productivity of their employees.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 - Keynote:

High Impact Paradigms for Changing Behaviors  to Enhance Health, Productivity and Wellbeing

For decades we have recognized the need for high-impact programs to change health risk behaviors such as smoking, stress, and inactivity that are major causes of chronic disease, disability, decreased productivity and premature death – but most often the demands for such programs did not match the needs.

Dr. Prochaska will explore how we can more rapidly and effectively put into practice a series of evidence-based high-impact paradigms that, when applied in integrated programs, can produce unprecedented impacts on health behavior risks, while reducing demands on participants and costs for purchasers.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 - Track Session:

Putting Theory into Practice: Applying the Science of Behavior Change

Dr. Prochaska and his colleagues will show you how employees can progress through the stages of behavior change to improve their health – demonstrating and comparing applications of the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) and showing outcomes with single and multiple behaviors.  This will be followed by a robust panel discussion and interaction with the audience.

This track session will provide attendees with a fuller understanding of the TTM, give them concrete examples of its use and prepare them to apply the model to their organizations.  It also will serve as a necessary introduction to the Workshop on Friday where they will be introduced to high impact, low cost practical tools to enhance employee health and productivity.

Friday, October 17, 2008 - Workshop:

Putting the Science of Behavior Change to Work for Improved Employee Health and Performance

Dr. Prochaska will join with Don Kuhl, CEO of The Change Companies®, to lead a workshop introducing a comprehensive approach to employee health and performance.  This population health system includes tools to evaluate current employee health status, measure improvements in health and productivity, and educate and motivate employees to take greater responsibility for their health and health care – culminating in a healthier workforce and improved corporate performance.
